The Greater Toronto Apartment Association, under the leadership of its Founding Chair Sam Grossman, established a Charitable Foundation in 2000 to raise money within the association and provide grants to community agencies working with the homeless in the greater-Toronto area.

As of July 1, 2005, the Foundation is now a registered charity with the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency and is able to provide tax receipts for donations.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors that determines worthy recipients of funds each year either donated or raised through fundraising activities.  Since 2000, the Foundation has granted out in excess of $250,000 to organizations working with the homeless and hard to house as well as community organizations with similar goals.

Each year at the Annual Meeting of the Greater Toronto Apartment Association, the Partnering Grants are awarded to worthy organizations.  This past year (as shown in the photograph) Horizons for Youth, Massey Centre for Women, Street Haven at the Crossroads, St. Stephen’s Community House Drop-in and Street Health were awarded grants totalling $90,000.
